Qualche parola in anticipo sui tempi in questa pagina avrei proprio voglia di farla: circa a novembre del 2021 mi è balenata quest’idea di fare un disco, il mio primo. Roberto Manzotti, un fotografo e un artista che stimo molto (sua è l’immagine e la scultura in cartone della copertina), da un po’ di tempo mi diceva di concretizzare le cose che facevo e che era un peccato non farle ascoltare anche ad altri. Così è cominciata quest’avventura che inizialmente lasciava un poco perplesso anche me. Nonostante siano molti anni che coltivo questa passione immensa che ho per la musica, sia da ascoltatore che da “praticante”, ho deciso di dar forma a questa cosa. Nei mesi successivi ho deciso di coinvolgere alcuni artisti di cui ho stima e con i quali per fortuna mia condivido anche un’amicizia. Aver trovato accoglienza da parte loro mi ha dato enorme fiducia nel progetto che ad un certo punto ha davvero preso il volo quasi da solo.

Il disco a cui ho lavorato è incentrato sulla voce femminile: sono dieci tra cantanti e attrici che partecipano al progetto con voci e lingue differenti, dal latino al magrebino, dal siciliano al greco al giapponese.
Ho avuto l’enorme fortuna di avere con me anche ospiti più che illustri: Julia Kent (violoncellista canadese che faceva parte della band di Anthony and the Johnsons) che collabora con molti artisti a livello internazionale e suoi brani sono presenti nelle colonne sonore di Sorrentino. Con Julia quasi timidamente ho mandato qualche brano per avere un parere e lei ne è rimasta colpita. A quel punto c’è stata quest’alchimia che ha fatto scaturire questa collaborazione di cui sono davvero felice.

Sara Ardizzoni, bravissima chitarrista ferrarese che vanta anche lei innumerevoli collaborazioni (Cesare Basile, Massimo Volume, Marc Ribot, Fennesz, Mike Watt, Peter Hook, East Rodeo…), è capitata dentro a questa cosa un po’ come con Julia. Le ho mandato il brano “Monte Clérigo” e lei subito mi ha scritto dicendo che avrebbe avuto piacere di contribuire con la sua chitarra. Massimo Fantoni, già con Andrea Chimenti, Paolo Benvegnù e molti altri, ci conosciamo da molto tempo e durante il lungo perido passato in Toscana abbiamo avuto anche modo di suonare insieme con Marco Canaccini. Elena Strada e Alessandra Aricò, attrici di teatro che mi hanno regalato due interpretazioni intensissime. Germana Giannini e Antonella Talamonti, artiste che hanno fatto della ricerca vocale il loro percorso di vita. Insieme a loro altre voci e strumenti di artisti che hanno la mia massima stima.

Volevo condividere con voi questo momento di grandissima soddisfazione che sto vivendo. Ora manca davvero poco, entro il mese prossimo il disco se ne andrà in stampa e a settembre 2023 probabilmente sarà pubblicato su Bandcamp, mentre potrete ascoltarlo in alcune piattaforme di streaming.

A few words ahead of time on this page I would really like to say: around November 2021, this idea of making a record, my first, popped into my head. Roberto Manzotti, a photographer and artist whom I respect very much (his is the image and the cardboard sculpture on the cover), had been telling me for some time that I should make the things I was doing concrete and that it was a pity not to make others listen to them as well. Thus began this adventure, which initially puzzled even me a little. Despite the fact that I have been cultivating this immense passion I have for music for many years, both as a listener and as a ‘practitioner’, I decided to give it shape. In the months that followed, I decided to involve some artists whom I hold in high esteem and with whom, fortunately for me, I also share a friendship. Having found acceptance from them gave me enormous confidence in the project, which at a certain point really took off almost on its own.

The record I worked on focuses on female vocals: there are ten singers and actresses participating in the project with different voices and languages, from Latin to Maghreb, from Sicilian to Greek to Japanese.
I also had the enormous good fortune to have more than illustrious guests with me: Julia Kent (a Canadian cellist who was in the band of Anthony and the Johnsons) who collaborates with many artists at an international level and her songs are featured in Sorrentino’s soundtracks. With Julia, almost shyly, I sent a few tracks to get an opinion and she was impressed. At that point there was this alchemy that triggered this collaboration that I am really happy about.

Sara Ardizzoni, a very good guitarist from Ferrara who also boasts countless collaborations (Cesare Basile, Massimo Volume, Marc Ribot, Fennesz, Mike Watt, Peter Hook, East Rodeo…), got into this a bit like Julia. I sent her the song ‘Monte Clérigo’ and she immediately wrote to me saying that she would have liked to contribute with her guitar. Massimo Fantoni, formerly with Andrea Chimenti, Paolo Benvegnù and many others, we have known each other for a long time and during the long period spent in Tuscany we also had the opportunity to play together with Marco Canaccini. Elena Strada and Alessandra Aricò, theatre actresses who gave me two very intense performances. Germana Giannini and Antonella Talamonti, artists who have made vocal research their life path. Together with them other voices and instruments by artists who have my utmost esteem.

I wanted to share with you this moment of great satisfaction that I am experiencing. Now there is very little left, within the next month the album will go to press and in September 2023 it will probably be released on Bandcamp, while you will be able to listen to it on some streaming platforms.
